🌱 Plant Care Guide – Hebe Speciosa Blue (Veronica speciosa)

☀️ Sunlight

The Hebe Speciosa Blue thrives in bright light and grows best in full sunlight to partial shade.

It requires at least 5–6 hours of direct sunlight daily for healthy growth and abundant flowering.

During extremely hot summer months, consider using a shade net during peak noon hours to prevent leaf scorch and protect the plant from intense heat.

🌡️ Temperature

Thrives in temperatures between 15°C to 30°C.

Tolerates mild Indian winters but protect from frost in hilly regions.

For mountain areas, place in sheltered corners during peak winter.

💧 Watering

Water deeply when the top 1 inch of soil feels dry. This encourages roots to grow deeper, which strengthens the plant's root system.

Frequent watering can lead to over-saturation, which may cause root rot. Allow the soil to dry out a little before watering again.

Water early in the morning or late in the evening to prevent water from evaporating too quickly in the sun. This ensures the plant gets enough moisture.

🪴 Soil

Prefers light, airy soil – avoid clay or heavy soil.

Mix garden soil, sand, and compost in equal parts.

You can use our ready-to-use organic potting mix for best results.

Ensure proper aeration to keep roots healthy and active.

✂️ Pruning

Trim lightly after each blooming cycle (late summer or post-monsoon).

Remove dead flowers, yellow leaves, and weak stems to boost flowering.

Always use clean pruning shears to prevent infection.

Regular pruning keeps the shrub bushy, compact, and flower-rich.

🧴 Fertilisers

Every 4–6 weeks, add vermicompost or cow dung manure to the soil. These enrich the soil and support strong plant growth.

Use bio potash to enhance root development and overall plant vigor.

During blooming times, apply bone meal or Epsom salt. Bone meal provides phosphorus and calcium for flower development, while Epsom salt adds magnesium and sulfur, enhancing bloom colour and strength.

Avoid chemical fertilisers. Choose organic ones — they nourish your plants naturally and keep the soil healthy without harmful residues.

In colder months, the plant's growth slows down. Avoid fertilising during this period to allow the plant rest.

🏡 Pot vs. Ground Planting

In Pots:

Begin with a 12-inch pot or grow bag to accommodate the young Hebe Speciosa Blue. As the plant matures, transition to an 18-inch pot or grow bag to provide ample space for root development. Ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.

In Ground:

Select a sunny garden bed with well-drained soil for planting. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball to allow roots to spread easily. Incorporate organic matter if the soil is heavy or clayey to improve drainage.

Maximum Height:

When grown in pots, the plant typically reaches a height of 3 to 4 feet. In ground conditions, it can grow taller, achieving heights of 5 to 6 feet, depending on care and environmental factors.

🚫 Common Issues & Solutions

Pest:

Watch for aphids, spider mites, and mealybugs – treat with neem oil or organic pest controller.

Yellow Leaves:

This often indicates overwatering. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings to prevent root rot.

No Blooms:

Insufficient sunlight can lead to a lack of flowers. Move the plant to a brighter location where it can receive more sunlight.

Powdery Mildew or Leaf Spots:

These fungal issues can be managed by improving air circulation around the plant, avoiding overhead watering, and applying a suitable fungicide like Trichoderma.

🌼 Benefits of Hebe Speciosa Blue:

Enhances biodiversity by attracting pollinators.

Adds evergreen colour to landscapes year-round.

Perfect for urban gardening in limited spaces.

Acts as a natural screen or hedge when grouped.

Drought-tolerant once established – ideal for Indian summers.
